Hungry Pants Is The Inherently Vegan Restaurant That Everyone Will Love, Even Carnivore’s
Recently, we had the absolute pleasure of visiting Hungry Pants on South Orange Avenue in Orlando, Florida. Hungry Pants is at the forefront of Orlando’s food future and located in an area that is rapidly being gentrified, thanks to urban sprawl. Hungry Pants is focus’ on healthy, clean, dishes. You’ll find a lot of vegan and vegetarian options. However, Hungry Pants still retains traditional proteins for all the meat eaters out there.
However, delicious food is usually even better with beer or wine. Hungry Pants may be all about clean eating and living well but they still understand the importance of serving alcohol. So, no matter what tickles your fancy, Hungry Pants is the answer to your problems. Be sure to order yourself some wine or a nice craft beer when you visit.
When you first walk into Hungry Pants you’re invited in by the bright atmosphere, friendly staff, and the wonderful smells from the semi-open kitchen that lure you all the way through the door. You’ll take a menu from the giant clam shell, bounce back and forth between options, and hopefully make the right choice while your brain is trying to decipher what that smell is that’s coming from the back of the house. There is no wrong answer. Regardless of your order, you’ll be happy.
What Were We Served At Hungry Pants?
Alex manages and owns Hungry Pants. If you’re not sure what to order on your next visit, ask for his recommendation. That’s what we did, and it was the second-best decision we made; second only to our decision to review Hungry pants in the first place. Alex recommended that we try the Cauli Tots, the Most Delicious Potatoes, and the Veggie Burger. Alex also brought us one of their Cucumber and Ginger Homemade Soda’s. You won’t find any big soda brands at Hungry Pants, and you won’t care. Cucumber and Ginger soda isn’t traditional, but we promise you’ll enjoy it more that you’re probably thinking you will.
The Cauli Tots are not all that meets they eye. They’re a mix of cauliflower and sweet potatoes that are fried and served with the most amazing dipping sauce. They have an air of falafel at first, until you bite into the sweet, creamy, center. The dipping sauce that they’re served with has just the right amount of zest and you should save your leftover sauce to dip your veggie burger in.
The Veggie Burger
Alright, so we do love a good veggie burger and Hungry Pants has a veggie burger that will leave even the most adamant meat eaters asking, “What’s Beef?”. They also have a cheeseburger that we didn’t try but we can tell you that it’s made with some of the best beef you can buy, so if you aren’t up for a veggie burger, you still have the traditional option available. However, you’d be doing yourself a dis-service by passing over the veggie burger right off the bat.
The veggie burger is made from black beans and husked brown rice. It is packed with flavor, and it’s served with a topping of arugula and pickled onions. The arugula and pickled onions not only add more flavor, but also a satisfying crunch that pairs well with the softer than beef veggie burger. Also, once you dip your burger into your leftover sauce from the Cauli Tots, you’ll understand why we told you to save it.
The Most Delicious Potatoes
Okay, so we go on and on about how you can tell when a restaurant really knows what they’re doing by the way they prepare the simplest items. The Most Delicious Potatoes are a perfect example of that rule of thumb. The sweet potatoes are cooked perfectly. You have to walk a fine line between perfectly cooked and overcooked which can be difficult to do, but not for Hungry pants. The potatoes are soft and crispy in all the right places. They hit the table piping hot with a healthy portion of cold, house made, pesto on top and a delicious aioli on the bottom. The key is to take a bite of all three ingredients at once. Trust us, you’ll be glad you did.
When you eat beef, you’re likely to leave a restaurant lethargic and drained of energy. The opposite is true when you eat at Hungry Pants. Due to the vegetables and the complex carbohydrates, you’ll leave Hungry pants feeling refreshed and full of energy that lasts you the rest of your day.
Please be sure to check out Hungry Pants’ menu. Also, make sure you follow them on Facebook and Instagram to keep up with all the happenings at Hungry Pants.
