City Of Orlando Opens Cooling Center To Combat Extreme Heat
The City of Orlando, along with the First United Methodist Church of Orlando, has launched a new Cooling Center to provide relief and a safe environment for vulnerable populations during heatwaves, especially those without shelter.
Offering Relief From Extreme Heat
The new center addresses the dangers of extreme heat, including dehydration and heat stroke, which can persist into the evening and nighttime hours. The City will work with the church to open the Cooling Center when the heat index is predicted to exceed 103 degrees. The center will operate from noon to 4 p.m., Sunday through Friday.
Situated at 142 E. Jackson Street, the Cooling Center will remain open through September, as long as high temperatures continue. This initiative ensures that those most at risk have a place to escape the severe heat.

Services And Amenities At The Cooling Center
The Cooling Center not only provides a cool place to stay but also offers essential amenities like restrooms, disability access, and drinking water. Downtown Ambassadors will distribute free water to individuals in the downtown area and inform them about the Cooling Center’s services.
This Cooling Center is part of Orlando’s broader efforts to protect public health during extreme heat events. By offering a designated cooling space, the city aims to reduce heat-related illnesses and provide relief to those most in need.
Keeping Updated On The Cooling Center
For the latest information on the Cooling Center’s operation, residents and visitors can check the City of Orlando’s official channels. The city will announce when the Cooling Center will be open, ensuring those in need are aware of this vital resource.
