CityArts to Break Ground on Highly Anticipated Arts Courtyard Project
CityArts, the esteemed downtown gallery and arts center, is thrilled to announce the groundbreaking of the long-awaited Arts Courtyard project. Situated adjacent to their historic Rogers Kiene building at the corner of Pine Street and Magnolia Avenue, this project will transform a dilapidated parking area into a vibrant community space.
“Transforming a rundown parking lot into a functional community space just made sense,” a CityArts representative shared with local sources. “This area will serve both CityArts and the Downtown Arts District for private events and art-related activities. It’s a win for everyone.”
The Vision For CityArts Courtyard
The Arts Courtyard project will introduce a new gateway, an intricate roof installation, and enhanced outdoor lighting, turning the space into a welcoming and useful area for the community. A significant contribution came from Lincoln Property Company, which donated salvaged architectural elements from the Church Street Ballroom demolished in 2023.
“Our entire team is excited to see architecture transform an underutilized asphalt lot into something unique and engaging,” a CityArts spokesperson told local sources. “The Courtyard will be a lasting part of downtown, adding beauty and supporting Orlando’s vibrant arts community.”
Poised To become A Beloved Downtown Landmark
The groundbreaking ceremony for the Arts Courtyard took place on Wednesday, July 10, and featured a dedication by Mayor Buddy Dyer. This event marks a major step forward in the city’s dedication to fostering arts and culture.
Located at 39 S. Magnolia Avenue, the Rogers Kiene Building is the oldest commercial structure in the city and is listed on the National Historic Registry. The building was meticulously restored and donated to the City of Orlando by local businessman and arts enthusiast Ford Kiene before his death in 2022.
As CityArts embarks on this exciting project, the Arts Courtyard is poised to become a beloved downtown landmark, enriching Orlando’s cultural scene. Stay tuned to CityArts’ social media and website for updates on the Arts Courtyard and other exciting projects.
