Unique Holidays coming up to celebrate in 2021.
Since we missed a whole year of being able to go out, we need every excuse to now. So here are a few interesting holidays for you and your family to celebrate, and have an excuse to take the day off and go outside.
National Fried Chicken day
National Fried Chicken Day is a day to enjoy crisp and tasty, finger-licking good fried chicken. Fried chicken is one of America’s favorite meals. Sure, we all know that fried foods are not good for us. But, fried chicken tastes ohhhhh so good. We just can’t resist having it on a regular basis. There’s just one thing you need to do to celebrate this day: Eat some fried chicken. You can have it for lunch, dinner, or cold leftovers as a snack. Better still, have it for lunch, dinner, AND for a snack.
Body Painting Day
Date When Celebrated: This holiday is always on July 8
Body Painting Day celebrates the serious work of art and self-expression. Of painting on a nude or largely nude, the live human body. Consider the art of body painting. First of all, while it is partially about nudity, it is not about sexuality. Body painting is a 3-D artwork and a form of self-expression and body acceptance, that can not be captured on a two-dimensional canvas. And, unlike a stone statue, body art captures a unique, live, and moving picture, that cannot be expressed in a piece of stone, no matter how good the artist is.
New York City artist Andy Golub is the founder and promoter of body painting. Golub started the art of body painting on the streets of New York City in 2007. For this first public, non-commercial event, Golub used models. In 2011, he used totally nude models, both male, and female, for the first time. The models are ordinary people, not professional models. Along the way, Golub was arrested, but ultimately charges were dropped, as this art was proven to be legal under the Constitution, and a legal expression of art, just like any painting or sculpture you will see on the streets of Rome, or in an art museum.
Body Painting has spread in popularity. Among the cities formally holding an annual Body Painting Day are: Amsterdam (2015), San Francisco (2016), and Berlin (2017)
International Picnic Day
Date When Celebrated: This holiday is always held on June 18
Today is a perfect day to go outdoors and have a picnic. It can be in a park, or right in your backyard.
Picnics date back to Medieval times when outdoor feasts were held to celebrate a successful hunt. Picnics really grew in popularity during the Victorian Era in England. Picnics are held outdoors from spring through fall. Picnics are enjoyed by everyone. Young lovers with blanket and picnic basket in hand, are a frequent sight in parks. Families and groups get together to enjoy picnics to celebrate just about any event, including Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, and family reunions. As a matter of fact, any reason is a good excuse to have a picnic.
Picnic fare commonly includes a meal, snacks, and outdoor games. Common picnic foods include hamburgers, hot dogs, macaroni, potato salad, and baked beans. But, any foods are fair game for your picnic. We suggest you try something a little different at each picnic.
Ice Cream Soda Day
Date When Celebrated: This holiday is always observed on June 20
Ice Cream Soda Day is a great summer cooler. It’s hot. It’s muggy. And, an Ice Cream Soda is a flavorful way to cool off.
The flavor of Ice Cream Soda is your choice. Any will do. Chocolate and vanilla are the most popular. But, don’t shy away from being creative with the flavor of ice cream or soda.
BTW: If you happened to notice, there are numerous “Ice Cream ” days this month. We think you will agree that the ice cream manufacturers have done a splendid great job of promoting their product.
