Are you or someone you know financially impacted by COVID-19? Orlando Residents may be eligible for up to $10,000 in rental assistance from the state. The Florida CARES Act Program is helping residents who are struggling with rent payments.
The Florida CARES Act Program
This $1.5 million program will help residents cover rent payments that were not made between March 1 and October 31. You must qualify by having made rent payments in February.
Rent Assistance in Orange County
The City of Orlando and the Heart of Florida United Way (HFUW) is managing the CARES rent assistance program. The city of Orlando is funding the program with $1,532,608 in Coronavirus Relief Funds (CRF). They will be able to assist an estimated 300 households with these available funds.
However, The City of Orlando CARES Rent Assistance Program is limited to residents of Orlando. Specifically, these are residents who have lost employment due to COVID-19. With this partnership, HFUW will be providing up to $10,000 in rent assistance to eligible households.
Eligibility Criteria for Rent Assistance
Orlando residents must meet a specific list of criteria in order to qualify for rent assistance:
- Must be a City of Orlando Resident
- You must have at least one month past due on rent payments from between March 1, 2020, to October 31, 2020
- Applicants must have made their February 2020 rent payment
- Applicants’ current household income cannot exceed 120% of Orange County’s Average Median Income
