SeaWorld Sees Less Crowds, More Money

SeaWorld
sees less crowds but more money. The theme park and marine zoological park based in Orlando, Florida stated a record income of $293.3 million, up 8.4% or $22.7 million from the first quarter of last year. This increase was motivated by visitors spending more money inside the parks than previous years.

SeaWorld saw a slight decrease in turnout at its parks. The company had almost three and a half million visitors in the first quarter, which is a drop of about 25,000 visitors compared to the same time last year. SeaWorld has blamed bad weather, especially at its parks in California, and the timing of new ride openings, as a main factor for the lower turnout numbers. And although international visitors are starting to return, the numbers still fall behind pre-covid levels.

In an earnings statement, SeaWorld stated a net loss of $16.5 million, but said that it was its smallest net loss seen in a first quarter. It also was a $7.5 million enhancement over the first quarter of 2022. And adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization was also at a record high in the three months, up 9% to over $72 million.

“This is the eighth consecutive quarter where we have generated record financial results,” SeaWorld Chief Executive Officer Marc Swanson said in a statement. “We continued to drive growth in total per capita spending in the quarter, demonstrating the effectiveness of our revenue strategies, our pricing power and the strength of consumer spending in our parks.”

SeaWorld Is Opening It’s First New International Park

SeaWorld is also getting ready to open its first new international theme park. SeaWorld Abu Dhabi is set to open May 23 of this year. In the meantime, in the United States, the company also has a number of new sites that are almost ready to unveil. In Orlando, Pipeline: The Surf Coaster will open to the public on May 27 of this year and a new water play area called Turi’s Kid Cove will open sometime this in May at Aquatica water park.
