Ringling Bros. And Barnum & Bailey Circus Is Making A Comeback In 2024
Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is making a comeback in 2024, but this time without animals. The nearly 150-year-old tradition, which ceased in 2017, is set to return with a new production premiering in Louisiana later this month and scheduled for an Amway Center run in January 2024.
Juliette Feld Grossman, the current producer, and a third-generation member of the Feld family, who carry the legacy of Ringling’s legendary impresarios Irvin and Kenneth Feld, expressed her deep connection to the circus. The decision to end the previous version of Ringling circus came after years of animal-related controversies and was further complicated by the pandemic.
Despite these challenges, Feld Entertainment, the parent company of Ringling, has managed to revitalize all of its prior properties and more, including Disney on Ice, Monster Jam, and Jurassic World Live. Their upcoming relaunch of Ringling Bros., Barnum, and Bailey is a highly anticipated event, representing a cherished part of American culture.
The Relaunch Of The American Circus
The relaunch, initially planned for 2021 but postponed due to COVID-19, involved extensive planning, ideation sessions, consumer research, and global casting searches. Notably, the new circus will not feature performing elephants, as they have retired to White Oak Conservation near Jacksonville. Instead, the focus will be on human performers, supported by a playful robotic dog.
Grossman highlighted the circus’s historical role in bringing together people from around the world, reflecting its welcoming nature for outsiders. This diversity continues in the new production, with performers hailing from 18 different nationalities and speaking over 10 languages.
Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is set to return, offering a spectacular show without animal performances. The circus’s rich history of uniting people from diverse backgrounds remains a core element in the new production, promising a unique and inclusive experience for audiences in 2024.
