Free Summer Programs at the Morse Explore American Painting

Families are invited to the Morse Museum to learn about botanical and landscape paintings by 19th- and 20th-century American artists. On selected dates in June and July, the Morse offers two free programs designed especially for children in kindergarten through fifth grade and their parents or guardians.

The Museum’s summer family programs include a gallery tour with take-home activity on selected Tuesdays and a film, tour, and an on-site art activity on selected Fridays. Registration is now open, and space in these programs is limited. A $5 refundable deposit per person is required when securing a reservation for either program.

Details:

Tuesday Family Tours—A 40-minute guided tour through several galleries on four Tuesdays: June 14 and 21; July 5 and 12. The program includes a take-home art activity. Friday Family Films—A short film, gallery tour, and on-site art activity on four Fridays: June 17 and 24; July 8 and 15. This program lasts about 90 minutes. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Please call (407) 645-5311, extension 136, to make a reservation or request more information.

The Morse Museum is home to the world’s most comprehensive collection of works by American designer and artist Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848–1933), including the chapel interior he designed for the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago and art and architectural objects from Tiffany’s celebrated Long Island home, Laurelton Hall. The Museum’s holdings also include American art pottery, late 19th- and early 20th-century American paintings, graphics, and decorative art.

The museum’s summer hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and l p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, $1 for students, and children younger than age 12 receive free admission and are welcome with their parents or guardians. The Museum, located at 445 N. Park Avenue, is owned and operated by the Charles Hosmer Morse Foundation and receives additional support from the Elizabeth Morse Genius Foundation. It receives no public funds.

Summer Family Programs

The Museum’s summer family programs are organized exclusively for elementary-school-aged children and their parents or guardians. The number of participants is limited, and reservations are required. Bring your family to the Morse and explore the late 19th- and early 20th-century American art in our galleries. Each 40-minute tour is led by a museum educator and includes a take-home art activity. The tour begins at 11:00 am.
