Central Florida May See The Return Of The NFL Pro Bowl

Citrus Sports, located in Orlando, Florida, plans to seek tourist development tax dollars from the Orange County Tourist Development Council so it can offer financial encouragement to bring the NFL Pro Bowl event back to Orlando. The NFL Pro Bowl took place in Orlando, Florida between 2016 and 2019. Unfortunately, the Pro Bowl did not return to Orlando, Florida in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. After the Pro Bowl cancellation in Orlando for 2020, it was re-located and held in Las Vegas, Nevada for 2021 and 2022.

Seeking Approval

Florida Citrus Sports
is hoping to find “approval of a significant sporting event grant to support the 2024 bid for the NFL Pro Bowl Games at $2.7 million each for fiscal year 2023-24,” according to documents from Florida Citrus Sports.

Although we’re not sure where the event may take place, it is probable that the Pro Bowl would take place at Camping World Stadium because of its history of hosting the Pro Bowl in the past.

The past Pro Bowl events produced a monetary influence of $45 million in 2019 and sold out an assessed 39,000 hotel room nights across the city. In addition, the games gather tons of televised viewership, with the 2023 Pro Bowl Game reporting 34.2 million viewers, according to documents from Florida Citrus Sports.

The NFL Pro Bowl Is A Big Deal

The CEO of Florida Citrus Sports, along with NFL executives, have not been reached by local media for comments. However, according to the league calendar, the games are scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 4, 2024. The location of the Pro Bowl has yet to be reported.

Securing the games would be a big deal for Central Florida and Camping World Stadium. Also, it just might help support the venue’s effort to complete a major renovation valued at over $800 million.

Florida Citrus Sports is looking for tourist development tax dollars to pay for the removal and reconstruction of Camping World’s upper deck. They also want to add a fieldhouse spanning 100,000 square feet. A new upper deck means more canopies need to be built as well to cover the additional seating.
