Zaru Set To Introduce Authentic Japanese Udon Noodles To Mills 50

Zaru is set to introduce Japanese udon noodles to Mills 50. Who doesn’t love udon noodles? Udon noodles are savory and comforting. Now, James Beard-nominated restaurateurs, Johnny and Jimmy Tung are bringing them to Mills 50 at Zaru.

This September, the udon enthusiasts in Orlando will have the opportunity to indulge in the delightful, tasty, square-shaped noodles at the much-anticipated Zaru, a noodle shop brought to life by the talented Tung brothers. Zaru is located at 1114 E. Colonial Drive, right next to Tien Hung Market, Zaru will boast an inviting 25-seat dining room and an open kitchen, allowing guests to plunge themselves into an authentic and fascinating dining experience.

Zaru Is Bringing Us Delicious Udon Noodles

Zaru is committed to traditional craftsmanship. Johnny and Jimmy Tung have poured their hearts into creating udon noodles that are nothing short of astonishing. To achieve this, they have meticulously sourced premium Japanese flour from Kagawa prefecture, revered as the birthplace of udon. Taking their dedication to excellence even further, the Tungs have even imported special equipment, including an udon-making machine, all the way from Kagawa to perfect Orlando’s udon scene.

Johnny eloquently stated his passion for preserving the 500-year-old noodle-making tradition, sharing, “During my travels across Japan earlier this year, I was captivated by the exquisite taste of udon there and felt a deep desire to bring that experience back to Florida through Zaru.” It is obvious that Zaru transcends being a mere restaurant; it embodies a profound dedication to the art of udon-making, offering patrons an opportunity to savor the spirit of this timeless Japanese staple.

The Menu

The menu at Zaru is a culinary delight in itself, featuring a collection of enticing options. Alongside their exceptional udon creations, guests can savor chilled zaru udon, ikura shiso udon, Edo-style tempura, and crab gyoza, among other tasty treats. Japanese beers and sake will pair well with the noodles, enhancing the overall dining experience. Furthermore, for those looking for a personalized touch, customizable noodle bowls will be available.

The beautiful design of Zaru is entrusted to the well-known Make Studios, recognized for their brilliant work on popular eateries like Soseki, Camille, and Viet-Nomz. The restaurant’s ambiance is considerately designed, combining traditional elements with contemporary touches. This ensures that diners feel warm and welcome throughout their udon experience.

A Special Place

While Zaru holds a special place as a substantial project for the Tung Brothers, it is just one of multiple ventures they have planned. With their tenacious plans for the 10,000-square-foot space neighboring the well-established Vietnamese market, the Tung Brothers remain secretive about upcoming projects. These ventures include the highly-anticipated Sorekara, led by the top-notch chef William Shen, expected to redefine Japanese dining in Baldwin Park.

While the Tung Brothers continue to delight us with their culinary projects, they have recently introduced Camille and the Foreigner, an exciting addition to their portfolio of successful eateries. Always determined to accomplish culinary excellence, the brothers are preparing to launch Kōsen, a 10-seat omakase concept in Tampa in the coming weeks.

The Tung Brothers are certainly on a mission to elevate Florida’s culinary scene, one extraordinary restaurant at a time. For those eagerly awaiting the September opening of Zaru, it promises to be a sensory delight, as they embark on a journey to experience the true essence of handmade Japanese udon noodles, crafted with love and perfection.
