Tabla Indian Cuisine

Please tell us that you’ve had Indian food or curry before? If not, you’re wildly missing out on some of the most epic flavor combinations in existence. Curry is universal. Although Indian curry is popular, other types of curry can be just as delicious and enjoyable, like Caribbean curry for example. Tabla hits all the flavor notes. Their traditional curry is so flavorful with just the right amount of heat. It is perfect for a midday lunch or quick take-out snack when you’re feeling peckish. You’ve probably heard of naan bread before as well. Either way, Tabla serves a garlic naan bread that is to die for. Peel off some naan, fresh from the tandoor, and utilize the greatest utensils in the history of the world, your hands. Sop up that delicious curry and rice in a bite sized piece of garlic naan and enjoy. It’s that simple.

The Porch

Ah, yes, the great American sports bar. It’s a wonder we ever get anything done at all, as a society, with these happy places around. You haven’t experienced heaven on earth until you’ve eaten wings, drank a cold beer, and watched an American Football game in a traditional American sports bar. In Winter Park, Florida lies The Porch. At The Porch, their wings are a favorite among regulars. Their sauces are perfectly executed, and they have a great selection to choose from. A fan favorite is the Truffalo sauce (buffalo sauce x truffle oil). The pairing of spicy buffalo sauce and the taste/smell of truffle oil is wild. The liquid gold sauce is just that, liquid gold. You may know this as Georgia Gold. Either way, it’ll be hard to shake that sweet, tangy, taste off your buds for the rest of the afternoon. Aside from wings, The Porch has a wide array of American favorites ranging from burgers, crimson red shrimp, and pretzel poppers (for the patron in a rush). All of which are raved about by locals and regular patrons of The Porch.

Fiddler’s Green

Winter Park’s premier, traditional, Irish pub is another great stop for anyone seeking a taste explosion in the middle of the day; Fiddlers Green. The fish and chips are something that would make the queen of England smile. It’s served as a big filet of cod, beer battered and deep fried. Served with a side of chips (fries), what more could you want? Maybe a cold beer? Well, Fiddler Green has that too. Their full bar is extensive and offers a wide variety of imported beers. Traditional shepherds pie is also on the menu. Fiddlers does make their shepherd’s pie with beef instead of lamb, but they execute it in a traditional Irish way; from the gravy they add to the beef to the seasonings they choose to use. The serving is HUGE, you’ll most likely be lounging around the latter half of your day after tackling this favorite.

Japan Express

What if you want a great, tasty, lunch in Winter Park during the week and you don’t have the time to sit down? We’ve got just the answer. One of the biggest hidden gems in the area, Japan Express. Aside from being downright delicious, Japan Express also boasts the classic American drive thru. This may be the fastest hibachi restaurant on the planet. The hibachi lunch from Japan Express is indistinguishable from Kobe. The protein is quality chicken or steak, which is extremely tender and flavorful. The sides offered and the yum-yum (white) sauce are also indistinguishable from what you’d expect with your chicken dinner at Kobe’s. Everything is prepared the same way. At about $12 a plate, about a pound of food or more per lunch, and the fact that they prepare your order in under ten minutes, makes Japan Express a lunch destination to be reckoned with.

Las Carretas

As Americans, we tend to love Mexican food almost as much as Mexico does. We are blessed by the food gods to have Las Carretas residing and serving lunch in Winter Park. The chimichanga is the star of the menu. The perfectly seasoned chicken or beef pours out of the lightly fried chimichanga, and mixes with queso blanco, as you cut into it for your first bite. Served with a phenomenal pairing of rice and refried beans, you cannot go wrong with a quick dash to this local Mexican restaurant during your lunch hour. Don’t forget to try other things on their menu. Tacos, burritos, quesadillas etc. are all works of art at Las Carretas.
