It’s hard to believe that Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, especially after the year we’ve had. With the pandemic still at large, many of us are looking for creative ways to have socially distanced date nights with our partners. If you are a patron of the arts, there is nothing more romantic than seeing a live show. This year, Orlando Shakes is bringing Shakespeare to you with a new outdoor venue.
Kiss Me, Shakespeare! February 12 – 14, 2021
Orlando Shakes Kiss Me, Shakespeare A Valentine’s Cabaret is a unique show that blends romantic Shakespeare scenes and Broadway songs. The performance will be showcasing the work of the Master of Fine Arts interns from UCF.
Fall in love with songs from musical adaptations of Shakespeare plays, such as “So In Love” and “Always True to You in My Fashion” (from Kiss Me, Kate), “What Do You Do With A Man?” and “Falling In Love With Love” (from Boys From Syracuse), and “One Hand, One Heart” and “Somewhere” (from West Side Story), as well as fiery, romantic scenes from plays such as Much Ado About Nothing and As You Like It.

New Outdoor Venue and COVID-19 Guidelines
Orlando Shakes will be performing Kiss Me, Shakespeare A Valentine’s Cabaret in their new outdoor venue in the Darden Courtyard. Orlando Shakes has already set up a white tent complete with an elevated stage, string lights, cocktail tables, and a seating capacity of 50. They were able to make this venue possible due in part to the CARES Act Funds.
Patrons are advised to follow safety and hygiene guidelines:
- Faces masks worn at all times except when consuming beverages while seated at their table
- For sanitary reasons, they are only accepting debit and credit cards. No cash.

Tickets
Patrons can purchase tickets from Orlando Shakes and are already on sale. Ticket prices range from $15 and include a two-person minimum.

Upcoming Spring 2021 Shows
Orlando Shakes is shaking up this season with new productions this spring. Josephine (February 17 – March 21, 2021) tells the story of the iconic dancer and performer Josephine Baker. The show is a burlesque cabaret dream play that depicts the life of Josephine. A Midsummer Night’s Dream (March 31 – April 17, 2021) is a classic Shakespeare comedy of magic and mischief. Orlando Shakes was founded by UCF professor Stuart Omans in 1989. Since they have put on world-class theater performances. Some of their high-class productions have included Nicholas Nickleby, Les Miserables, In the Heights, the original pronunciation Elizabethan production of Twelfth Night, and the Fire and Reign series history cycle.
