The Mongolorian Closes, Making Way For South East Asian BBQ Spot DZÔ! BBQ
The Mongolorian, which made its debut with much anticipation last May, has officially closed after just over a year in business. Despite the initial excitement, The Mongolorian struggled to keep its momentum and served its final dish this past Sunday.
From The Mongolorian To DZÔ! BBQ
Taking over the location at 2217 E. Colonial Drive, one of the original partners of The Mongolorian, Hoi Nguyen, is set to launch a new restaurant called DZÔ! BBQ. With the closure of The Mongolorian, Nguyen is bringing a fresh concept to the space, focused on South East Asian barbecue. The name “Dzô!” is a popular Vietnamese cheer during toasts, hinting at the lively atmosphere and communal dining experience that Nguyen plans to create.
DZÔ! BBQ will feature a variety of South East Asian-inspired grilled meats, emphasizing small plates and shareable dishes. Nguyen promises a menu that blends the best flavors from across the region, including Vietnamese-style lemongrass spare ribs, Laotian sausage, and other skewered delights. The concept draws from Nguyen’s childhood memories of backyard barbecues with his family, bringing those familiar and comforting flavors to the table at DZÔ! BBQ.
A New Beginning After The Mongolorian
While The Mongolorian faced its share of challenges, Nguyen is excited to turn the page and introduce DZÔ! BBQ as a new and innovative dining option. Fresh off the launch of his K-Mex concept, Side Chik, next to his Korean fried chicken restaurant, Chi-Kin, Nguyen is no stranger to the Orlando food scene. He believes DZÔ! BBQ will offer a vibrant and enjoyable experience, complete with a selection of beer, wine, and possibly cocktails to pair with the diverse barbecue offerings.
Renovations for DZÔ! BBQ are already in progress, with updates to the interior and exterior expected to take about a month. Nguyen aims to open DZÔ! BBQ by late September or early October, breathing new life into the space that once housed The Mongolorian.
