The Annual Bach Festival has been a Central Florida music tradition since it was founded in 1935. For three weeks in February the Bach Festival Choir, Orchestra, and guest artists fill Winter Park with choral, orchestral, and chamber music. Patrons travel from across the country and around the world to enjoy beautiful music in the tranquil setting of the Rollins College campus.
All singers are volunteers at the Bach Festival. Many have music degrees or advanced musical training, serve as educators in the Central Florida area, or maintain active schedules as soloists in churches and other venues throughout the community. Many others singers are simply brought to the Choir by their love of music and the desire to sing with an extraordinary group and to learn and perform extraordinary repertoire. Regardless of their backgrounds, the members of the Choir are adept at reading music, sight-singing, and vocal performance.
John V. Sinclair is Artistic Director and Conductor of the Bach Festival Society as well as Director of Music at Rollins College, and holds the John M. Tiedtke Endowed Chair. He enjoys a national reputation as a conductor of choral masterworks while locally being known as one of the hardest-working and in-demand artists of the Central Florida cultural community.
The Orchestra’s high musicianship has been consistently recognized, and its playing has been described as “dexterous,” “gentle,” “vigorous,” and “nimble,” encompassing the wide and colorful range of its members’ talents. Often, Orchestra members are featured soloists on Bach Festival Society programs.
