Applications Open For The Arthur “Pappy” Kennedy Prayer Breakfast Scholarship
Applications are now being accepted for the Arthur “Pappy” Kennedy Prayer Breakfast Scholarship, which supports high school seniors from BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) backgrounds who excel in academics, leadership, and community involvement. Eligible students have until November 8 to apply for this opportunity to further their education.
“This scholarship can make a real difference by easing some of the financial challenges that low-income students encounter when pursuing higher education,” explained Kevin Bolding, president and CEO of YMCA of Central Florida. “The Arthur ‘Pappy’ Kennedy Scholarship offers deserving students a pathway to achieving their educational goals.”
How To Qualify For The Prayer Breakfast Scholarship
To apply for the Arthur “Pappy” Kennedy Prayer Breakfast Scholarship, students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5, provide two recommendation letters, and complete a 500-750 word essay. Applicants should also be involved in school leadership roles, extracurricular activities, and volunteer work.
Winners of the prayer breakfast scholarship will be celebrated at the Arthur Pappy Kennedy Prayer Breakfast, an annual event hosted by the Pappy Kennedy Family, Southwest Orlando Jaycees, the City of Orlando MLK Commission, and YMCA of Central Florida, on January 20, 2025. The event honors scholarship recipients, recognizes sponsors, and commemorates the legacy of Arthur “Pappy” Kennedy, the first African-American City Council member in Orlando.
Scholarships of up to $2,000 will be awarded to high school seniors planning to attend accredited colleges, trade schools, certificate programs, or other higher education institutions in Fall 2025. These funds are designed to help cover educational costs for students dedicated to advancing their studies.
If you know a student who meets the criteria, encourage them to apply. The Arthur “Pappy” Kennedy Prayer Breakfast Scholarship not only provides financial assistance but also acknowledges and invests in the future leaders of our community.
