About Kids House Wayne Densch Children’s Advocacy Center
The Kids House opened its doors in 1999 with special thanks to the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) partners who handle child abuse cases in Seminole County. These child welfare professionals recognized that the current system for handling child abuse cases was ineffective and disjointed. Before the Kids House had been created, child victims of abuse had to engage with several disjointed law enforcement, medical and social service agencies in Central Florida. Kids House follows the national model for Children’s Advocacy Centers and brings together all involved agencies in one child-friendly, centralized location.
What is a Child Advocacy Center?
So, what is a Child Advocacy Center? A Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) is a support center where abused children will be able to tell their story ONCE to a trained interviewer who knows all the right questions to ask, as to not re-traumatize the child whilst find the facts crucial to the child’s case. A team of professionals, including Medical Professionals, Law Enforcement, Child Protection Services, Victim Advocacy and Prosecution, and other professionals, decide together how to help the child based on the interview.
