Opera Orlando is ready for another amazing season in 2022

Opera Orlando is ready. As the Company celebrates opera everlasting on the Main Stage at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in Steinmetz Hall. Audiences will enjoy a Mozart masterpiece, share in the remarkable true story of the 1914 Christmas Truce of World War I, and be blown away by a Donizetti comedy full of slapstick fun and vocal fireworks.

FRIDAY | October 28, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. SUNDAY | October 30, 2022 at 2 p.m. For the season opener, Opera Orlando presents one of the greatest operas ever written, Mozart’s The Magic Flute. Bring the family to this enchanting and whimsical fairy tale about love and light, sacrifice and darkness, and finding one’s place in the world. In this sumptuous, spectacular production, journey along with Prince Tamino as he navigates a treacherous brave new world in his quest of self – discovery.

As The Story Unfolds…

The story unfolds in frames like a graphic novel, bringing all of the arts together to tell this fantastical tale. Artistic director Grant Preisser directs this all new production inspired by the fine art anime of Yoshitaka Amana, with dance choreographed by Maxine Montilus, puppetry by MicheLee Puppets, and Mozart’s beautiful score performed by the Orlando Philharmonic

Orchestra conducted by Chaowen Ting, making her Company debut. She will take the podium and lead a stellar cast, including phenomenal tenor. Brian James Myer as Papageno. This production will be sung in German with new English dialogue by Grant Preisser and English supertitles. The cast also includes members of the Opera Orlando Chorus and Youth Company          .

Bringing a message of camaraderie, hope, and peace this holiday season, Opera Orlando remounts its acclaimed 2019 production of All is Calm: the Christmas Truce of 1914. Set at the  Western Front during World War I, this poignant and moving work relates the historic events of Christmas Eve in 1914 through actual soldiers’ letters and official military correspondence, interwoven with old war songs and carols. This emotionally compelling Christmas story brings gifts of poetry, melody, and memories for all to enjoy. Celebrate the holidays with this intimate and beautiful melding of music and theater as the cast performs acapella in the acoustically ideal Steinmetz Hall.

Artistic director Grant Preisser once again directs this band of brothers, with Andrew Minear, artistic and executive director of Orlando Sings, making his Company debut as music director. The troupe of singers welcomes back previous cast members. Along with new faces coming together in harmony to tell this powerful story. The story of a German soldier stepping into No Man’s Land to sing “Stille Nacht (Silent Night),”. Which began an extraordinary and unprecedented night of music, acceptance, and peace.

This production will be presented in Steinmetz Hall’s concert hall configuration and sung in English with no supertitles. A talk back with the creative team and cast will be held immediately following each performance. In addition to these Main Stage performances, this production will also tour to the Polk Theater in Lakeland and the Ritz Theater at the Wayne Densch Performing Arts Center in Sanford.
