What does 2022 look like in Florida?
Orlando, a destination that has continued to expand and evolve over the past year, welcomes 2022 with a plethora of new experiences.
Ice Breaker
SeaWorld will finally be ready to break the ice in 2022. The park’s Ice Breaker coaster was originally slated to open in 2020 but was pushed back because of the pandemic. After setting a 2021 timeline for the coaster, SeaWorld delayed the attraction again, moving it to 2022. When it opens in February, Ice Breaker will feature multiple launches—both forward and backward—as well as the “steepest beyond vertical drop in Florida.”
Iron Gwazi
A rebuild of the former Gwazi wooden coaster, Iron Gwazi is expected to open in March. The hybrid coaster will feature a 206-foot beyond vertical drop and reach speeds of up to 76 mph, making it the steepest and fastest coaster of its kind.
Peppa Pig Theme Park
The world’s first Peppa Pig Theme Park will open Feb. 24, 2022 at LEGOLAND Florida Resort. The standalone theme park will feature multiple rides, interactive attractions, fun live shows, themed playscapes and water play areas.
Art²
Art² (“art squared”), an urban park featuring a two-story shipping container structure, is coming to downtown Orlando in spring 2022. The park will incorporate a café, art gallery, stage, seating, digital video walls and a gift shop, as well as an artificial turf courtyard, a concrete patio, picnic tables and hammocks and two food truck spaces.
Cirque du Soleil- Drawn to Life
Cirque du Soleil – Drawn to Life premiered at Disney Springs in November 2021. The show is a combination of Disney animation and awe-inspiring performances including 10 unique acrobatic acts.
Krush Brau Park
Krush Brau Park will feature three areas. The outdoor tented area, or Festplatz, will host German festivals including Oktoberfest and a Christmas festival known as Weihnachten Fest. Both of which had kickoffs in 2021 A New Year’s festival called Silvester Fest, a spring festival known as Frühlingsfest. An autumn festival known as HerbstFest.
“Everything will be themed, and you’ll be able to experience different countries all around the zoo,” says Krush, who co-owns Krush Acquisitions with his wife, Katie. The veteran says the complex is attracting the attention of the area’s large and varied community of European expats.
The animatronic animals will be “an ode to the old zoo” but with a new facade, he explains. “We’ve taken the zoo and put a Bavarian front on it. When you drive up to it, it will look as if you’re in Bavaria, Germany.” Families can also enjoy playgrounds and an outdoor theater.
Gateway: the deep space launch complex
Gateway: the deep space launch complex will open at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in March 2022. The 50,000-square-foot multi-level attraction will feature a showcase of NASA equipment and commercial spacecraft with immersive displays, as well as space “travel”, unique launch viewing opportunities and more again.
