Whataburger Ready To Make Its Return To Orlando

Whataburger
, the iconic fast-food chain founded in 1950 in San Antonio, Texas, is making a much-anticipated return to the Orlando area. After a long absence, the brand is gearing up to reestablish itself in Central Florida, bringing back its made-to-order burgers that fans have missed.

The chain first arrived in Orlando back in 2005 but closed its doors just four years later in 2009. The locations that were shut down included sites on University Boulevard in Winter Park, Commodity Circle in southwest Orlando, East Colonial near Bithlo, and Wickham Road in Melbourne. At that time, Whataburger had taken over underperforming locations from a franchisee but couldn’t turn them around. This time, the company is returning with corporate-owned locations from the outset, ensuring full support and a stronger presence in the market.

CEO Ed Nelson has pointed to the success of Whataburger’s locations in Jacksonville and the Florida Panhandle as a key motivator for the Orlando return. “Those are some of the highest openings the brand ever had, with phenomenal first weeks, first months, sales records,” Nelson noted.

What Orlando Can Expect From Whataburger

While Whataburger has yet to finalize its first lease in Orlando, Nelson remains confident that the area can support several locations. A typical Whataburger restaurant spans about 3,300 square feet and occupies a traditional outparcel site of 1 to 1.3 acres, though some digital-only formats might be smaller.

Whataburger is renowned for its made-to-order burgers, and the company’s focus remains on offering value without resorting to heavy discounts. “It’s about the value of my burger,” Nelson emphasized. Instead of discounting meals, Whataburger runs promotions like free iced coffee or small milkshakes to attract customers. Alongside their signature burgers and chicken sandwiches, the menu also includes salads, sides, desserts, and breakfast items.

As Whataburger gears up for its Orlando return, fans can look forward to enjoying their favorite flavors once more. With its strong brand reputation and strategic planning, Whataburger is set to become a Central Florida favorite all over again.
