Get on a lake this Father’s Day, Go Fishing!

There are so many places to go with dad. Does your dad like to fish? Abundant sunshine and pleasant temperatures allow for Fishing in the “Largemouth Bass Capital of the World”. Year-round on the region’s more than 550 lakes that occupy over 135 square miles including Lake Kissimmee. The Winter Haven Chain of Lakes, Lake Walk-in-Water (Weohyakapka)

Palmer also designed one of the three courses at Reunion Resort, with the others being dreamed up by Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus. Another Nicklaus course can be played at Grand Cypress Golf Club. We also have creations from Greg Norman (ChampionsGate Golf Club and The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Orlando, Grande Lakes) and Reese Jones (Waldorf Astoria® Golf Club), among other celebrated designers.

Reopening on June 8, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) National Campus makes Orlando the Home of American Tennis. With 100 courts spread across 64 acres. More importantly, this state-of-the-art facility has professional-grade courts. Where players of all ages and skill levels can play for free, although pre-registration is required.

Throw in the facility’s educational and training opportunities, including private lessons, and you have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for dads who “love” tennis. The USTA National Campus is in Lake Nona, about 20 minutes from Orlando International Airport.

Airboat Trip

For some dads, nothing gets their motor running like, well, a running motor. Attach one of those bad boys to a rugged airboat, and you have a recipe for adventure that most dads will find hard to resist! Top Orlando-area airboat operators that have reopened include Boggy Creek Airboat Adventures, Kissimmee Swamp Tours, and Spirit of the Swamp Airboat Rides.

Flyboarding

How about treating dad to a thrilling new experience at Winter Haven Watersports? Rocket 45 feet out of the water, swim like a dolphin, or surf the sky, riding a Flyboard, the hottest new extreme watersport, for an experience like none other.

Paddleboard

Winter Haven offers private paddleboard parties, corporate “board” meetings, paddleboard adventure trips, and Paddlefit workouts. Paddleboard Winter Haven even offers two stand-up paddleboards that are rigged for fishing with a rod holder, anchor, and cargo net.

Westgate River Ranch Resort & Rodeo

Bring out the cowboy in him with horseback riding, Saturday night rodeos, a trap and skeet shooting range, airboat rides, lodging, and more at Westgate River Ranch Resort & Rodeo where he’ll find everything the family needs for some good old-fashioned cowboy fun at an authentic dude ranch located east of Lake Wales.

Hiking at Colt Creek

For a refreshing change of pace, get outside and explore Colt Creek, State Park. 12-miles of trails ideal for horseback riding, mountain biking, and hiking.

Search for Rare Birds or Alligators

Polk County has a lot of birding hot spots, so grab Dad, your sneakers, and a camera. Circle B Bar Reserve was recognized as one of the 51 Great Places to See Wildlife by USA Today. But if you want to explore a more remote location, we would suggest Gator Creek Reserve, Lake Wales Ridge State Forest, SUMIDA, or Lake Kissimmee State Park.

Go on a Bike Ride

Why not take a cycling trip this year? The area touts an extensive list of multipurpose trails and paths, offering numerous choices for those who love pedaling. Check out trails like the Fort Fraser Trail, TECO Trail, Chain of Lakes Trail, General James A. Van Fleet State Trail, and Loyce Harpe Park to find a cycling stretch that delivers the perfect distance and endurance lever for everyone in your party. If you don’t have your own wheels, LeRoy’s Bikeworks and Road and Trail Bicycles offer an assortment of rentals.
