Orlando Science Center Secures $1 Million for CineDome Renovations

Dr. Phillips Charities has gifted $1 million to the Orlando Science Center to fund a major renovation of its Dr. Phillips CineDome. Since 1997, the CineDome has been a cornerstone of the center’s programming, and this upgrade promises to elevate its capabilities for future visitors.

Exciting Plans for the Orlando Science Center CineDome

As part of the Unlock Science campaign, the renovation will include the installation of an 8K full-dome digital laser projection system. This advanced technology will bring modern planetarium shows, giant-screen movies, and laser light displays to the CineDome. Construction is scheduled to begin in Fall 2025, with the revamped CineDome set to open in Spring 2026.

The enhancements will also pave the way for innovative mixed-media events, such as live performances paired with stunning visuals projected onto the dome. Additionally, the Orlando Science Center plans to produce original dome content and distribute it globally, while also receiving content from other theaters through “dome-casting” technology.

“This contribution will help transform the Dr. Phillips CineDome into a world-class, immersive experience that will inspire future generations of learners and innovators,” said Ken Robinson, CEO and President of Dr. Phillips Charities.

Why the CineDome Renovations Matter

The Orlando Science Center is dedicated to creating educational and engaging experiences, and the CineDome’s upgrade will strengthen its mission to spark curiosity and exploration. These advancements will not only attract new audiences but also solidify the center’s position as a leader in science education and innovation.

With this investment, the Orlando Science Center will continue to serve as a premier destination for learning and entertainment in Central Florida. The renovated CineDome will provide visitors with a cutting-edge, immersive environment that highlights the exciting intersection of science and technology

Keep an eye out for updates as the CineDome renovations progress—this transformation will redefine the Orlando Science Center experience for years to come.
