A Streetcar Named Desire is an emotional tour-de-force and a steamy ballet that dives deep into the mind of Blanche Dubois – one of the most enduring characters from Tennessee Williams’ original work and a drama still relevant today. This production was originally conceived by choreographer Annabelle Lopez Ochoa and theater and film director Nancy Meckler. You won’t want to miss this visually stunning and provocative ballet that is a mesmerizing exploration of truth, lies, memory and desire. The Original Work by Tennessee Williams
A Streetcar Named Desire is Tennessee Williams’s most famous play, written in 1947. A play adaptation was also performed for the first time in 1947. It is a southern gothic play set in New Orleans. The storyline follows the relationship between Stella, her husband Stanley and her recently reintroduced sister named Blanche. The plot follows the main character Blanch DuBois, who comes to New Orleans to stay with her sister Stella and her cruel husband Stanley.
The play is a powerful exploration of human desires, both physical and emotional as well as the consequences that arise when these desires are left unchecked. A Streetcar Named Desire highlights the societal and personal struggles of individuals in the post-war period. As well as their inability to reconcile their past with their present.
CONTENT WARNING
Although A Streetcar Named Desire is a classic in American literature, it is recommended for adult audiences due to its mature themes which are depicted through dance.
