Orange County Public Schools To Provide Free Meals For Students In The New School Year
Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) will once again offer free meals to students throughout the upcoming school year. This marks the second consecutive year that OCPS will ensure all students in the district receive nutritious meals at no cost during the 2024-2025 school year, starting this month.
OCPS’s Dedication To Student Nutrition
OCPS remains committed to ensuring every student receives essential nutrition. Through the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), all students across the district will benefit from free meals without the need for forms or applications. The primary objective is straightforward: to eliminate hunger and provide students with the nutrition necessary for academic success.
“Our goal is to ensure that every student has access to nutritious meals, contributing to their overall well-being and educational achievement,” emphasized Mark Watson, senior director of OCPS Food and Nutrition Services, in a recent press release.
Enrollment Details
While most students automatically qualify under the CEP, parents of students attending new schools—Atwater Bay Elementary School, Luminary Middle School, and Innovation High School—are required to complete a Meals Benefits Application. This ensures seamless inclusion in the free meal program for students at these newly established educational institutions.
The CEP initiative aims to alleviate financial constraints associated with meal fees and dispel any stigma associated with receiving free meals. By offering meals at no charge, OCPS fosters an inclusive environment where students can focus on learning without hunger as a distraction.
Looking Forward
As the school year approaches, OCPS remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting students through this vital program. The provision of free meals underscores the district’s dedication to student welfare and academic success. This initiative plays a pivotal role in ensuring every student has the opportunity to thrive in a nurturing and supportive educational environment.
Orange County Public Schools continues to demonstrate leadership by prioritizing the nutritional needs of its students. With ongoing support from the Community Eligibility Provision, OCPS is poised to make a significant positive impact on student lives throughout the upcoming 2024-2025 school year.
