New Orlando Businesses 2021
Winter Park and Orlando are constantly growing and creating new and entertaining places for us to enjoy. Take a look at some of the newest Orlando businesses that you can enjoy with your family and friends.
The Axe Trap
Two local doctors plan to breathe new life into the 0.6-acre property at 2600 Lee Road, site of the double-domed Club Harem – variously known as the Booby Trap, Club Harem, Club Rio, and Christie’s Cabaret — an adult entertainment venue with a lurid history. The contract to purchase the land from the City for $950,000 was approved by a 4-1 vote, with Commissioner Carolyn Cooper casting the dissenting vote. Local vascular surgeons Dr. David Varnagy and Dr. Manuel Perez Isquierdo plan to build an ax-throwing facility where the Booby Trap once stood.
Ax Throwing?
A popular pastime in Canada and a feature in lumberjack competitions, axe-throwing is now gaining popularity in the U.S. According to Wikipedia, indoor ax-throwing is a sport in which the competitor throws an ax at a target, attempting to hit the bull’s eye as near as possible. Today there are commercial locations in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom where participants can compete, similar to dart throwing.
Japango
A brand new addition to the Mills50 district near Downtown Orlando! Serving delicious sushi, a wide selection of teas and beverages, macarons, and Mochi ice cream; JAPANGO is an incredible option for a to-go lunch or fun gathering with friends. Orlando Decoded was recently invited to experience their awesome food and drinks.
Chef Dennis Chung (who also owns Tokyo Tapas in Oviedo) has created an eclectic and wide-ranging sushi menu to fit every taste. You can order a traditional roll like the California or Philly OR try one of his more adventurous options, like the Torchy Tuna with sweet chili glaze and crisp shallots!
Aloha Beautiful
Despite the multitude of bars in Orlando, there is a notable dearth of tiki in the City Beautiful, so Aloha Beautiful might just be what the doctor ordered. Aloha Beautiful holds a soft opening tonight for VIPS, and then a more general-admission soft opening/”sneak peek” period from Thursday-Saturday, March 18-20. RSVP required.
F&D Woodfired Italian Kitchen
The new restaurant will be located at 1965 Aloma Avenue, Winter Park [GMap], in the former home of Rice and Beans Cocina Latina. The concept will be the same as its original location in the Hourglass District with scratch-made Italian dishes ranging from wood-fired pizza to fresh pasta made by the folks at Trevi Pasta (Website) in College Park. The owner of F&D, Charly Robinson, says he expects the new restaurant to be open before the end of the year.
