Manolo’s stories come to Florida
The Spanish short documentary film from Malaga My Uncle Manolo by PJ Martínez, has been selected to participate in the documentary section of the sixth edition of the Melrose Film Festival in Orlando, Florida, which will be held on September 28, 2024.
My Uncle Manolo focuses on the experiences of Manuel Díaz Caballero, known as Manolo, who was a local police officer for more than 30 years and is the main motivation for this documentary, which travels to the memories of the long-lived member of the family by visiting the Malaga Local Police Museum.

PJ Martínez
This is the first professional short film by PJ Martínez, who studied Audiovisual Communication at the University of Malaga and later the Master of Cinematography and Visual Arts at School Training, a Malaga film school, where he was given the opportunity to make this short film.
The Melrose International Film Festival
The Melrose International Film Festival is a festival that highlights the work of imaginative filmmakers from around the world. Our annual festival is dedicated to celebrating the art of visual storytelling in short films, animations, and documentaries. An event held at the Melrose Center in Orlando, where there will also be virtual screenings, industry panels, and Q&A sessions with directors. This is the third selection in the United States, after having been selected in April at the Bifocal student festival held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and winning the award for best international documentary short at the first edition of the Compton’s Hub City International Film Festival held last August in Compton, California.
This is the ninth selection of the project in total, after having gone through festivals in Colombia, Algeria, India, and Kazakhstan, winning awards for best documentary short at the Zabrinsky International Film Festival in Colombia, another award in the same category at the Majestic King International Film Festival, and the honourable mention for best documentary short at the Thilsri International Film Festival, both in India, and being a finalist in the youth documentary section of the International Children’s Film Festival Dreamer in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
