Lake Eola Park Welcomes Six New Swans
This week, the tranquil waters of Lake Eola Park have welcomed six new swan residents, bringing fresh life to the beloved Orlando landmark. The city recently introduced two Australian black swans, two whooper swans, and two trumpeter swans to the park, adding to its diverse collection of wildlife.
The two Australian black swans have been brought in to replace a pair that were unfortunately lost earlier this year due to a river otter attack and bird flu. The city confirmed in February that the bird flu was responsible for several swan deaths at Lake Eola Park, making the arrival of these new swans a heartening event for the community.
Lake Eola Park’s Latest Swan Additions
Lake Eola Park’s new swans were funded by City Commissioner Patty Sheehan’s discretionary budget, with $7,500 allocated for the whooper swans, another $7,500 for the trumpeter swans, and $4,500 for the Australian black swans. In a video shared on Lake Eola Park’s social media, Commissioner Sheehan is shown helping to release the swans into the lake, highlighting the community’s dedication to preserving the park’s natural beauty.
Lake Eola Park is now home to five different breeds of swans, including the newly added trumpeter, whooper, and Australian black swans, as well as the existing black neck and royal mute swans. These new arrivals not only help replenish the park’s swan population but also enhance the picturesque environment that Lake Eola Park is famous for.
The introduction of these swans is a significant moment for Lake Eola Park, reinforcing its status as a cherished green space in the heart of Orlando. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, the sight of these elegant swans gliding across the lake adds a special touch to the park’s peaceful atmosphere, making it an even more inviting spot for everyone to enjoy.
