Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Charters Chapter at Rollins College

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® made its mark on another college campus on November 19, 2023, by chartering a chapter at Rollins College. Twelve women were initiated as new members to charter the Upsilon Pi Chapter, adding to the South Atlantic Region, the largest region in the sorority. 

Founded on the campus of Howard University January 15, 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®  is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American college-educated women. 

The chartering ceremony was conducted by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® South Atlantic Regional Director, The Honorable Tiffany Moore Russell, Esq.  “We are so excited to embrace these 12 extraordinary ladies into our beloved sorority, and I am confident they will make long-lasting contributions to the Rollins College campus community,” she  said.  “These young ladies represent academic excellence, service and sisterhood.  I cannot wait to see what they accomplish at Rollins.” 

Russell also expressed appreciation to Rollins College for welcoming the new chapter to the campus. Rollins College is the fourth oldest post-secondary institution in Florida founded in November 1885. U.S. News & World Report ranked Rollins College the No. 1 regional university in the South in its 2024 rankings of “Best Colleges,” released in September.   • Jordyn Burnett – Middleburg, FL

  • Ophelia Lukamba – Kinshasa, Congo

  • Olivia McCoy – Orlando, FL

  • Shalisa Knowles – New Providence, Bahamas

  • Savannah Nurse – Brooklyn, NY 

  • Chanel Thompson – Orlando, FL

  • Kalen Roberts – Tallahassee, FL

  • Bree Martinborough – Grand Bahamas, The Bahamas

  • Chanice Thompson – Orlando, FL

  • Ani Henry-Walker – Orlando, FL

Upsilon Pi  Chapter is the second undergraduate chapter chartered under Russell’s administration. Upsilon Xi Chapter was the first. It was chartered at Georgia Gwinnett College on October 29. Upsilon Pi Chapter will be supervised by AKA graduate chapter Psi Theta Omega located in Metro Orlando, FL.

Following the ceremony, the new chapter held a celebratory luncheon at The Rice Family Pavilion on the campus of Rollins College. Carolyn House Stewart, Esq., the 28th international president of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, attended both events. 

The members of Upsilon Pi Chapter are strategically positioned to have a significant impact on their campus and the surrounding community while promoting the sorority’s Soaring to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood international initiatives: 1) Strengthening our Sisterhood; 2) Empower Our Families; 3) Build Our Economic Wealth; 4) Enhance Our Environment; 5) Advocate for Social Justice; and 6) Uplift Our Local Community.
