Park Avenue is home to many internationally-themed and locally owned boutique restaurants that are thrilled to share samples of their cuisine with you! Over the course of two and a half hours, you will learn about the rich history of the area as well as enjoy a delicious selection of food and drinks along the way.
Pom Pom’s Teahouse & Sandwichery
Pom Pom’s Teahouse & sandwichery offers some of the best tea and sandwiches in all of Orlando. Our all-time favorite menu item is Mama Ling Ling’s Thanksgiving Sandwich, pictured below in all of its glory. Pom poms are open until 4 a.m. every Friday and Saturday. It is located just east of downtown Orlando, making it the perfect stop after a night out.
Bao’s Castle
For late-night Asian Fusion cuisine 24/7, Bao’s Castle is a perfect choice. Bao’s Castle offers a variety of delicious bao bun creations, with filling options that include pork belly, Korean short rib, fried shrimp, fried chicken, braised short rib, fried soft crab shell, tofu, and mushrooms, all of which are less than $5 each. They also serve some tasty sides, rice bowls, and churros.
Chicago Dog & Co.
If you would rather slap yourself in the head with a deep-dish pizza than make the trip down to Portillo’s for a Chicago-style dog, this little family-run joint in Altamonte will give you a true taste of Second City wiener authenticity. And, yes, they will have Italian beef sandwiches, tamales, and smash burgers on the menu as well.
Chicken Fire
One of the hottest (literally and figuratively) food-truck operations in this city finally got a permanent space from which to fire off some of the best hot chicken this side of Nashville. Tenders and sliders (available in “soulful,” “meek,” “mild,” “medium” and “hot” levels) are served simply in boxes along with bread, pickles, crinkle-cut fries, and coleslaw.
Ramen Takagi
Yoko Takagi and chef/husband Gabriel Leal bring legit bowls of tonkatsu, shoyu, shio, and spicy miso ramen to the UCF corridor in Oviedo. Both are students of the soup and bring a fierce focus to detail with everything from tare to oils fashioned from scratch. Thin squigglers from Myojo are used for shio and shoyu ramens while Sun Noodles are used for creamy Tonkotsu and spicy miso renditions, the latter being a lure for its base blending a five-hour Chintan chicken broth with the 20-hour paitan broth.
Winter Park Biscuit Company
The vegan diner by former Blink-182. Road chef and cookbook author Mary Westfall and A Day to Remember guitarist Neil Westfall have arguably been the most buzzed-about restaurant opening of the year. This wife-and-husband team opened WPBCo inside East End Market. Plating flaky, fluffy biscuits fashioned from oat buttermilk with their fried chick’n. But it is the Impossible Burgers served on a potato bun with secret sauce, house pickles, American “cheese,” lettuce, and tomato that’s winning over flexitarians and meat-eaters alike. Long lines are a given.
Papa Llama
Having garnered a rep for serving some of the finest Peruvian fare in the city with their pop-up dinners. Kevin and Maria Ruiz set their sights on a brick-and-mortar operation. Cue the opening of their Curry Ford West restaurant. A bright, modern space that’s been drawing serious buzz thanks to such dishes as chicharrón de calamari with herbaceous wakatay salsa, and a wicked Arroz chicken chaufa with smoky ají panca, Peruvian choclo, and bok choy. The wine list may be small, but it is focused and hardly an afterthought. And, yes, they serve Inca Kola.
