Valentines’ Day Mac and Cheese, The new date night dinner?

Valentines’ Day Mac and Cheese, The new date night dinner?

That is right! The Kraft company has brought out a bright and unusual kind of Macaroni I do not think any of us were expecting. Candied pink mac and cheese! Would you make this for your valentine this year?

There are a lot of foods that pair together perfectly to spark a little romance. Spaghetti and meatballs, for instance. Chocolate and strawberries, too. Kraft’s Valentine’s Day concoction, on the other hand, sparks confusion. On Wednesday, Kraft-Heinz announced a contest to give out free “kits” of its latest, limited-time mac and cheese. The box of Original Mac & Cheese will be joined by a packet of pink, candy-flavored powder to mix into one’s cheesy dinner. According to the brand, the mix will turn the noodles a bright magenta color, rather than that familiar orange.

What makes the powder pink?

So, what makes the powder pink? Is it crushed-up conversation hearts? Is it a cloud of special dust from Cupid’s arrow? Actually, according to a Kraft-Heinz spokesperson, the vibrant pink hue comes from beetroot and carrot concentrates. As for what makes it tastes like candy, the extra packet of powder contains fructose, natural flavors, and vanilla extract, they said. Kraft is giving their iconic Mac & Cheese a little makeover for Valentine’s Day this year and you can enter to win a Candy Kraft Macaroni & Cheese kit!

A trip down Mac & Cheese lane

Last September Kraft celebrated the fall season and all its glory with a special pumpkin spice version of its iconic mac and cheese. The seemingly weird concoction wasn’t really that strange, though. Pumpkin is a tried-and-true ingredient in many pasta dishes; that’s a flavor combo foodie know can work wonderfully. According to a company statement, “No more noodling on what gift to buy. There is no better way to show your love this Valentine’s Day than saying “you’re the mac to my cheese” with Candy Kraft Mac & Cheese.”

Candied pink vs Pumpkin Spice?

We are not exactly sure. Unlike Kraft’s Pumpkin Spice take, this version doesn’t make nearly as much sense. But it does have something in common with the company’s autumnal dish—we’d still eat. We really love mac and cheese. And we really love candy. Maybe together they are a match made in heaven. Bizarre pink heaven.
