You’ll meet lot’s of people fast at our event in Orlando\, FL. Don’t miss it! \nHOW IT WORKS:\nIt takes meeting a number of people before you find someone you click with. But how do you meet them? Sure there are bars\, blind dates\, dating services\, online\, etc. But they all have their disadvantages and take time…lots of it. What fun is it to wait around for someone to talk to you in a bar? What fun is it to risk rejection over and over again striking up conversations with people you don’t even know are single? What if the conversation goes well\, what about the awkwardness afterwards with asking for phone numbers? \nWith Pre-Dating\, you meet up to 12 (and sometimes more) single professionals in less than 2 hours. Think of it as a series of “facilitated introductions” just like when you go to a party with a good host. Afterwards\, if there’s interest (you discreetly circle on your interest sheet who you would like to hear from again)\, you’ll get an email with links to contact your “mutual matches”. There’s no pressure\, no rejection\, no embarrassment and no games\, just fun! Try it and you’ll see for yourself. \nTo use COUPON CODE Eventbrite5\, or for more Orlando singles events:

SUMMARY:Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezín
DESCRIPTION:Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezín\nOpera Orlando is proud to present the Florida premiere of Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezín\, a concert-drama that combines the magnificent music of Verdi’s Requiem with video testimony from survivors of the original Terezín chorus and footage from the 1944 Nazi propaganda film about Theresienstadt. The work tells the story of the courageous Jewish prisoners in the Theresienstadt Concentration Camp (Terezín) during World War II who performed Verdi’s Requiem while experiencing the horrors of the concentration camps. With only a single score\, they performed the celebrated oratorio sixteen times amidst the most horrendous of conditions. \nIn addition to a full orchestra\, and 120 member chorus\, the work also weaves in actors who speak the words of imprisoned conductor Rafael Schächter who organized the performances in the camp and others. The piece was conceived and created by The Defiant Requiem Foundation president Murry Sidlin\, who will be on stage conducting the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra\, the Opera Orlando Chorus\, and members of Orlando Sings. \nImmerse yourself in the beauty and dramatic intensity of Verdi’s Requiem in the acoustically ideal Steinmetz Hall at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts with a 70-piece orchestra provided by the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra\, a 150 voice chorus from the combined forces of Opera Orlando and Orlando Sings\, and a quartet of world renowned soloists — all under the baton of The Defiant Requiem Foundation president and Defiant Requiem creator Murry Sidlin. \nSeptember 14\, 2024 | Steinmetz Hall | 7:30 p.m. \nPurchase Tickets \nAdditional Information\nThis work is presented in partnership and with permission from The Defiant Requiem Foundation and serves as a benefit concert for the Holocaust Memorial Resource and Education Center of Florida. \nThe run time for the concert is 2 hours with no intermission.\nThis concert is generously supported by the Ginsburg Family Foundation\, Mary & Frank Doherty\, Carla D’Andre & David Treitel and Valeria & Jim Shapiro. Sponsorship packages which include tickets to the event are available for private donors\, corporations\, and foundations and can be purchased by contacting Opera Orlando at (407) 512-1900 or by emailing info@operaorlando.org.

SUMMARY:Fernando Molinares-Dreams of the Alligator Man FREE ARTIST RECEPTION
DESCRIPTION:Coming to Osceola Arts in the Studio Gallery- SUEÑOS DEL HOMBRE CAIMÁN-Dreams of the Alligator Man works by Orlando artist Fernando Molinares IG@mrmonk90 on display from September 3 through October 25. \nA free and open to the public artist reception will be held in the Studio Gallery on Saturday\, September 14 from 2pm to 5pm. \nThe legend of the Caimán-man\, a hybrid of human and caiman\, embodies the spirit of Colombian folklore. According to the tale\, this creature flees from his homeland\, it reaches the Atlantic Ocean near Barranquilla\, Colombia\, at Bocas de Ceniza\, where the Magdalena River merges with the Caribbean Sea. There\, he encounters persecution from fishermen intrigued and frightened by his unusual appearance. “Hombre Caimán” (Alligator-Man) has become a customary label for any man born and raised on Colombia’s north coast. \nFernando Molinares\, hailing from Barranquilla\, shares a kinship with the iconic Caimán-man. In many ways\, he too is a hybrid. This sense of hybridity is not unique to him; everyone experiences moments of feeling strange or different\, especially in environments where they are not part of the majority. Through his art\, Molinares delves into his emotional connections with the Caimán-man\, portraying these sentiments through dream-like images filled with symbolism and elements of magical realism. His work reflects the universal experience of being a “strange creature in a strange land\,” evoking the deeply human feeling of being different. \nFernando Molinares emigrated to the United States in 2000 and worked as a portrait artist at Disney World theme parks. During this time\, he completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Central Florida (UCF)\, and years later\, while working as a lead artist for Universal Orlando\, he obtained his Master of Fine Arts from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Fernando has participated in numerous collective and solo exhibitions in Orlando and abroad. He continues working for the Disney Company as a Figure and Show Finisher Artist\, an adjunct professor of Arts and Humanities at Ana G. Mendez University\, and a part-time Faculty Art professor at Valencia College in Orlando. \nWorks by Fernando Molinares will be displayed in the Studio Gallery from September 3 through October 25 with a free artist reception on Saturday\, September 14 from 3pm to 5pm. SUMMARY:Liminal Space Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Liminal Space Opening Reception\nLiminal Space\nOpening Reception\nSeptember 13 from 6-9 PM\nCasselberry Arts Center\n137 Quail Pond Circle \nJoin us for the opening reception of Liminal Space at the Casselberry Arts Center on Friday\, September 13 from 6-9 PM. \nArtists Anthony Mancuso and Bobby Aiosa are interested in portraying\, the complexities of our built environment and how these designed spaces\, public and private\, impact our daily lives. \nBoth artists are interested in exploring the activity within the threshold of domestic and public lives and how one can influence the other. \nAnthony Mancuso’s paintings focus on visualizing the psychology of everyday domestic scenes of co-habitation through the lens of multiple points of view\, askew perspective\, and saturated colors. \nBy conflating historical design movements and architectural motifs with familial and organic objects\, Bobby Aiosa’s sculptural architectural fragmentations reflect on the past lives that once occupied these spaces\, and how constant urban redevelopment can bring these once concealed histories to the surface. \nBoth artists utilize the influence of structural form\, organic shape\, and hue as a tool to convey an underlying consequence behind the imagery and objects presented. Behind the colorful façade of our designed spaces there are more complex stories beyond what the passive viewer may discern within our everyday environments. \nThe evening will include light refreshments and great music. Lake Concord Park will also host a Food Truck event and two additional openings at the Art House and the Sculpture House during this event so bring your friends and family to enjoy all the offerings in Casselberry. \nAll events are subject to change and/or cancellation. For more information\, please call (407) 262-7700\, Ext. 1122 \nCasselberry Arts Center\nSince 2002\, the Casselberry Art House has been bringing people of all ages together for unique art experiences and cultural enrichment programs. This 2\,500 square foot facility offers community space for art classes\, art exhibitions\, educational programs\, workshops\, artist lectures and musical performances for all ages. \nNestled in a quiet\, park setting on Lake Concord\, the Casselberry Art House continues to provide a wonderful opportunity for residents\, Central Florida businesses and other organizations to enjoy and appreciate art. SUMMARY:Documenting Defiance: A Requiem of Resilience
DESCRIPTION:Documenting Defiance: A Requiem of Resilience (Defiant Requiem)\nIn anticipation of Opera Orlando’s Florida premiere of Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezín\, they are hosting a FREE screening of a feature-length documentary film also entitled Defiant Requiem. This film highlights the most dramatic example of intellectual and artistic courage in the Theresienstadt (Terezín) Concentration Camp during World War II: the remarkable story of Rafael Schächter\, a brilliant\, young Czech conductor who\, after being arrested and sent to Terezín in 1941\, organized a chorus of 150 prisoners to sing Verdi’s Requiem in an act of strength and resistance. \nWith testimony provided by surviving members of Schächter’s choir\, soaring concert footage\, cinematic dramatizations\, and evocative animation\, this unique film explores the singers’ view of the Verdi Requiem as a work of defiance against the Germans at that time. The text of the Mass enabled them\, as Schächter told the chorus\, to “sing to the Nazis what they could not say to them.” \nSeating is on a first-come\, first-seated basis and is not guaranteed. \nPurchase Tickets \nAbout\nConceived by The Defiant Requiem Foundation’s president and founder\, Murry Sidlin\, a distinguished conductor\, educator\, and artistic innovator\, the film Defiant Requiem was written and directed by Doug Shultz. A Q&A session with Maestro Sidlin will follow the film\, which has a run time of 85 minutes. \nOpera Orlando’s presentation of Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezín is produced in partnership with The Defiant Requiem Foundation\, Orlando Sings. It is produced in addition with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and is a benefit concert\, with all ticket sales being donated to the Holocaust Memorial Resource and Education Center of Florida. \nThis concert is generously supported by the Ginsburg Family Foundation\, Mary & Frank Doherty\, Carla D’Andre & David Treitel and Valeria & Jim Shapiro. Sponsorship packages which include tickets to the event are available for private donors\, corporations\, and foundations and can be purchased by contacting Opera Orlando at (407) 512-1900 or by emailing info@operaorlando.org.

Edible plants and trees will be introduced as we meander\, with a discussion at each stop about the plant\, shrub\, or tree—including whether it is edible or medicinal\, other uses\, and how to identify it. This is a hands-on course where tasting\, smelling\, and feeling is important. It is taught in a fun and practical way to make the experience educational and enjoyable. Most hikes cover 15-20 different species and vary depending on the season of the year. \nMaggie O’Halloran\nMaggie O’Halloran is an herbalist and educator in Central Florida. She comes from a large family where chaos was the norm. Additionally\, she always found peace outside watching things grow or climbing magnolia trees. She learned in her mother’s kitchen that the things you put in your mouth impact your mind and your body. \nIn the early 90’s she first found her own inspiration to view health from a holistic perspective while working as a teacher assistant at a mental health hospital for children. From that experience\, she decided that there had to be a better way to help kids beyond medicating them to a zombie state with pharmaceuticals. She started college studying education and psychology ultimately received a bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Masters in Educational Leadership.

Located less than 10 minutes from downtown Orlando. The sense of arrival comes from the change in architecture and detail. There are no perimeter walls\, gates or elaborate water feature entries. Everything is designed to make the neighborhood attractive place for pedestrians and bicyclists. More than 50 miles of sidewalks\, walking paths and bike paths invite people to get outside.
