SUMMARY:Tosca
DESCRIPTION:Tosca\nOpera Orlando presents Puccini’s tragically grand Tosca to kick off its 2023-24 All for Art MainStage series. As war and rebellion ravage the city of Rome\, the celebrated and passionate opera diva Floria Tosca finds herself caught in a web of religious and political intrigue\, betrayal\, and jealousy as she tries to save her lover the painter and firebrand Mario Cavadorossi\, while being coveted by the villainous and corrupt Baron Scarpia\, who holds all the power. It is an utterly untenable situation that proves dire for all involved\, but Tosca isn’t one to back down from a fight. \nThis taut melodrama unfolds on stage at Steinmetz Hall in a brand new and sumptuous production led by stage director Josh Shaw\, making his return to Opera Orlando\, and conductor Eiki Isomura who is making his Company debut\, with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra in the pit. \nThey are joined by an international cast that includes Greek-soprano Eleni Calenos as the luminous and fiery Tosca with acclaimed tenor Nathan Granner as the fearless and dashing Cavaradossi. They are both making their Company debuts\, while baritone Daniel Scofield\, last seen as Sheriff Jack Rance in Opera Orlando’s site-specific production of The Girl of the Golden West\, returns to Orlando as the treacherous and forceful Scarpia. \nThe cast also includes 2023-24 studio artists\, members of the Opera Orlando chorus\, and the Opera Orlando Youth Company. Tosca will be sung in Italian with English supertitles and have a run time of approximately two hours and twenty minutes with one intermission. \nPurchase Tickets \nDr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts\nWe believe a performing arts center should be more than a beautifully designed building. We believe in creating experiences that educate as much as entertain. And we believe in inspiring creativity with programming our entire community can enjoy. \nWe believe in making the arts accessible to people from all walks of life—all over the world. And we invite you to join us on this journey. \nTo support our vision\, Arts For Every Life®\, Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts hqas become a hub for the best international\, national\, and local artists\, for community outreach\, and for arts education.

SUMMARY:Madame Butterfly @ Enzian Theater
DESCRIPTION:Madame Butterfly @ Enzian Theater\nIntroducing Madame Butterfly @ Enzian Theater. American Naval officer Pinkerton is stationed in Japan and decides to wed the teenage geisha Cio-Cio San\, called Butterfly. Unbeknownst to the young bride\, this officer is looking merely for a marriage of convenience. She falls promptly and swiftly in love\, even converting to Christianity in order to be a better wife. Yet\, storm clouds gather on the horizon: at the wedding\, an uninvited guest curses the couple. \nPinkerton leaves\, and Cio-Cio San is left alone to bear his child. Suzuki\, Cio-Cio San’s maid\, insists that the officer will never return\, but Butterfly will not believe it. Her faith is seemingly justified one day when Pinkerton’s ship indeed sails into the harbour. \nHowever\, Pinkerton has brought an American wife with him\, and Butterfly is expected to give up her child. She agrees to do so\, but only if he comes in person to see her. He arrives to find that she has committed ritual suicide with her father’s knife. \nThe most loved aria from this opera is ‘Un bel di vedremo\,’ sung by Butterfly as she pines for Pinkerton’s return. \nOpera & Ballet on the Big Screen\nOur annual Opera & Ballet on the Big Screen series features an extraordinary lineup of performances filmed in high definition and showcased in spectacular digital cinema. \nPurchase a Season Pass to all four Opera + Ballet performances and receive discounted admission\, as well as a complimentary glass of house wine\, coffee\, or tea at each show! \nMembers that are Contributor level or above and Season Passholders are able to make a table reservation for this series. SUMMARY:Lamps and Lighting—Tiffany and His Contemporaries
DESCRIPTION:Lamps and Lighting—Tiffany and His Contemporaries\nView Lamps and Lighting—Tiffany and His Contemporaries at The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art. Few designers did more to bring art into the home than Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848–1933)\, and few of Tiffany’s incredibly varied products did more in this regard than his lamps. Tiffany had been interested in lighting since his days as a decorator\, but the rapid adoption of electricity in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century created unprecedented opportunities to marry technology and beautiful design for a much larger group of consumers. \nThe new installation of Lamps and Lighting—Tiffany and His Contemporaries showcases some of Tiffany’s most innovative designs for lamps and sets a context for their production and design. John Dikeman’s workbench and lamp molds\, recent acquisitions by the Morse\, illustrate the process used in the creation of a lamp. Dikeman (1882–1967) was the head of Tiffany Studios lamp department until it closed in the 1930s. \nThe Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art\nThe Morse Museum houses the world’s most comprehensive collection of works by Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848–1933)\, including the artist and designer’s jewelry\, pottery\, paintings\, art glass\, leaded-glass lamps and windows; his chapel interior from the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago; and art and architectural objects from his Long Island country estate\, Laurelton Hall. The Museum’s holdings also include American art pottery\, late 19th- and early 20th-century American paintings\, graphics\, and decorative art. \n  \n
