SUMMARY:The Nutcracker
DESCRIPTION:The Nutcracker\nLike young Clara\, Artistic Director Jorden Morris dreams big as all will see when Orlando Ballet premieres this entirely new production of The Nutcracker. It is supported by an elite dream team of designers of sets\, costumes and lighting. This production is a wonderfully imaginative version of the world’s most beloved holiday tale. Staying true to the traditional story of a young girl’s love for her favorite Christmas gift bestowed by the town’s toymaker\, Morris pairs Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s classic musical score with entirely new choreography to create a fresh and whimsical experience complete with giant snow globes\, fancy mice\, and a few high-flying surprises. \nThe Nutcracker Showtimes\nDecember 8\, 2023 | 7:30pm\nDecember 9\, 2023 | 2:00pm \nFamily & Sensory-Friendly \nDecember 9\, 2023 | 7:30pm\nDecember 10\, 2023 | 2:00pm\nDecember 10\, 2023 | 7:00pm\nDecember 14\, 2023 | 7:30pm\nDecember 15\, 2023 | 7:30pm\nDecember 16\, 2023 | 2:00pm \nFamily & Sensory-Friendly \nDecember 16\, 2023 | 7:30pm\nDecember 17\, 2023 | 2:00pm\nDecember 17\, 2023 | 7:00pm\nDecember 20\, 2023 | 7:30pm\nDecember 21\, 2023 | 7:30pm\nDecember 22\, 2023 | 7:30pm\nDecember 23\, 2023 | 2:00pm \nFamily & Sensory-Friendly \nDecember 23\, 2023 | 7:30pm\nDecember 24\, 2023 | 1:00pm \nPurchase Tickets \nOrlando Ballet Company and School\nFounded in 1974\, Orlando Ballet is Central Florida’s only fully residential professional ballet company. SUMMARY:Tosca
DESCRIPTION:Tosca\nOpera Orlando presents Puccini’s tragically grand Tosca to kick off its 2023-24 All for Art MainStage series. As war and rebellion ravage the city of Rome\, the celebrated and passionate opera diva Floria Tosca finds herself caught in a web of religious and political intrigue\, betrayal\, and jealousy as she tries to save her lover the painter and firebrand Mario Cavadorossi\, while being coveted by the villainous and corrupt Baron Scarpia\, who holds all the power. It is an utterly untenable situation that proves dire for all involved\, but Tosca isn’t one to back down from a fight. \nThis taut melodrama unfolds on stage at Steinmetz Hall in a brand new and sumptuous production led by stage director Josh Shaw\, making his return to Opera Orlando\, and conductor Eiki Isomura who is making his Company debut\, with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra in the pit. \nThey are joined by an international cast that includes Greek-soprano Eleni Calenos as the luminous and fiery Tosca with acclaimed tenor Nathan Granner as the fearless and dashing Cavaradossi. They are both making their Company debuts\, while baritone Daniel Scofield\, last seen as Sheriff Jack Rance in Opera Orlando’s site-specific production of The Girl of the Golden West\, returns to Orlando as the treacherous and forceful Scarpia. \nThe cast also includes 2023-24 studio artists\, members of the Opera Orlando chorus\, and the Opera Orlando Youth Company. Tosca will be sung in Italian with English supertitles and have a run time of approximately two hours and twenty minutes with one intermission. \nPurchase Tickets \nDr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts\nWe believe a performing arts center should be more than a beautifully designed building.
