SUMMARY:Opera Orlando's The Juniper Tree
DESCRIPTION:Opera Orlando’s The Juniper Tree\nOpera Orlando’s The Juniper Tree is a special add-on production that concludes its 2023-24 All for Art season. A dark retelling of Grimms’ The Juniper Tree\, a contemporary chamber opera by composers Philip Glass and Robert Moran to a libretto by Arthur Yorinks\, is a tale about a jealous and scheming stepmother who murders her stepson and serves him up in a stew to his unsuspecting father\, only to then be killed herself by the stepson who is reincarnated as a beautiful bird. It is a haunting and hypnotic opera with some of Glass’ most tuneful melodies. \nIn partnership with Victorian spook troupe Phantasmagoria and MicheLee Puppets\, local stage director John DiDonna has conceived a feast for the senses with dance\, puppetry\, spectacle\, and of course\, gorgeous singing. International conductor Geoffrey Loff will make his Company debut leading musicians from Alterity Chamber Orchestra and a fantastic cast featuring Opera Orlando 2023-24 season studio artists and the Opera Orlando Youth Company. \nThe Juniper Tree will be presented in a thrust configuration. It will be sung in English with English supertitles and have a run time of approximately 90 minutes with no intermission. \nPurchase Tickets \nAbout Dr. Phillips Center\nWe believe a performing arts center should be more than a beautifully designed building. A tale of love\, betrayal\, and madness\, Lucia is torn between allegiance to her family and her love for Edgardo–her brother Enrico’s sworn enemy. A forced marriage leads to tragic ends for all involved in this gorgeous operatic treatment of Sir Walter Scott’s gothic romance The Bride of Lammermoor. \nSteinmetz Hall is transformed into the North country in this dark\, original production designed and directed by Opera Orlando artistic director Grant Preisser\, with Robert Wood\, making his Company debut\, conducting the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. General director of Opera Orlando and Grammy award-winning baritone Gabriel Preisser leads a stellar cast as Lucia’s duplicitous and desperate brother Enrico with the stunning American soprano Marnie Breckenridge making her Company debut in the title role of Lucia. Also making a Company debut is Chinese baritone Zaikuan Song in the role of the cleric Raimondo\, and Opera Orlando welcomes back acclaimed tenor and Company favorite Ben Gulley as Lucia’s passionate lover Edgardo. The cast also includes 2023-24 studio artists\, members of the Opera Orlando chorus\, and dancers from the Orlando Ballet.

SUMMARY:Gipsy Kings at Dr. Phillips Center
DESCRIPTION:Gipsy Kings Concert at Dr. Phillips Center\nNicolas Reyes has been the leader and co-founder of the Gipsy Kings for well over 30 years. In the past three decades\, they have dominated the World Music charts and sold more than 14 million albums worldwide. Their platinum compilation\, The Best of the Gipsy Kings\, was charting for over a year upon its release and their ninth studio album\, Savor Flamenco\, was awarded the Grammy for Best World Music Album in 2013. \nThis iconic legacy began when Nicolas’ father\, Jose Reyes\, formed a celebrated flamenco duo with Manitas de Plata (which boasted fans as famed as Miles Davis and Pablo Picasso). When the pair parted ways\, the elder Reyes became even more popular upon starting his own band\, backed by his son\, called Los Reyes. In later years\, Nicolas headed out on his own and began playing in the town of Arles in the south of France. He traveled throughout the country\, busking on the streets of Saint-Tropez\, playing wherever he could. Having adopted the perpetual motion of the gypsy lifestyle\, his band eventually translated “Los Reyes” and became the Gipsy Kings. \nThe band’s music went on to fuse with popular culture. In addition to the accolades above\, the traveling Gipsy Kings have played some of the world’s greatest stages\, from the Hollywood Bowl to Royal Albert Hall as well as hitting the big screen. Their rendition of “Hotel California” was included in the film The Big Lebowski and the HBO series Entourage. The 2010 film Toy Story 3 featured a Gipsy Kings version of the movie’s popular\, Randy Newman-penned theme\, “You’ve Got a Friend in Me”. The Gipsy Kings recently featured in a Big Lebowski spinoff The Jesus Rolls with Reyes appearing in person with the director and star\, John Turturro\, for some of the promotion. \nAs active as this remarkable collective remains\, they are also confident in the future of their legacy. “Even though it’s been 30 years\, we want to keep on making new music because it’s our life. It’s who we are\,” says Nicolas Reyes. “But I think there will be a time when we pass down the Gipsy Kings to our sons”. \nThe ‘Becoming A King’ Memoir Package \nPurchase Tickets \nOne Premium Reserved ticket to see Gipsy Kings featuring Nicolas Reyes live.\nOne copy of the new memoir\, Becoming A King\, autographed by Nicolas Reyes\, pickedup at the show. In Becoming A King\, international music great Nicolas Reyes shares his captivating journey from the gritty\, itinerant life of a gypsy to international stardom. \n

SUMMARY:A Bronx Tale at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts
DESCRIPTION:A Bronx Tale at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts\nGet ready for A Bronx Tale at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts! Bronx-born and raised Chazz Palminteri wrote A Bronx Tale in 1988. The powerful one-man stage play depicted his bruising childhood which included witnessing a gangland killing when he was nine years old. Palminteri played 18 characters and brought them all to life in his autobiographical play. His friends\, enemies and family came alive on stage. Hollywood Studios went crazy after seeing it and offered him millions of dollars to turn it into a major movie. There was one catch… They wanted to put a star in the role of Sonny and someone else to write the screenplay. With $200 dollars in the bank…Palminteri said No… he would hold out and wait. He wanted to play Sonny and write the screenplay. Then one night Palminteri walked into his dressing room and sitting there was Robert De Niro who just saw the show. Robert DeNiro gave Palminteri the chance he was waiting for… And as they say in Hollywood the rest is history. \nPalminteri wrote the screenplay for the film A Bronx Tale and then most recently wrote the book for the Broadway Musical. It was the first time in history that the same actor wrote the one-man play\, the movie\, and the Broadway Musical and starred in each one. \nPerformance Notes\nDate: Sunday\, January 7\, 2024\nTime: 7 p.m.\nTickets from: $39.50 \nPurchase Tickets \nIn the past 35 years\, Chazz has appeared in over 60 films. SUMMARY:Trans-Siberian Orchestra-The Ghosts Of Christmas Eve
DESCRIPTION:Trans-Siberian Orchestra-The Ghosts Of Christmas Eve\nTrans-Siberian Orchestra-The Ghosts Of Christmas Eve\nFri • Dec 22 • 2:30 PM\nAmway Center\, Orlando\, FL \nThe holidays rock a whole lot harder than they ever have thanks to Trans-Siberian Orchestra. By infusing seasonal classics with rock flamboyance\, a symphonic sense of scope\, and an eye-popping visual presentation complete with lasers and pyrotechnics\, what began as a side project for a veteran group of American hard rockers has grown into one of today’s top-selling acts\, with over 10 million concert tickets sold since 1999. \nNow\, to celebrate the band’s 20th year on the road\, Trans-Siberian Orchestra is mounting an all-new production of the show that first turned them into an arena-rock phenomenon. First performed in 1999 and recorded for a TV special – which became just as much of a holiday staple as ‘The Sound of Music’ – ‘The Ghosts of Christmas Eve’ was conceived by Paul O’Neill\, TSO’s original mastermind. A veteran producer for acts like Aerosmith and Savatage\, O’Neill was inspired by the rock operas of The Who and the grandly theatrical concerts of Pink Floyd to create something that was even more spectacular. Together with Savatage members Jon Oliva\, Bob Kinkel\, and Al Pitrelli\, O’Neill developed a unique project that married the spirit of the season with all the exhilarating sounds\, operatic grandeur\, and visual bravura that fans had come to expect of rock gods. After the massive success of TSO’s first two albums\, ‘Christmas Eve and Other Stories’ and ‘The Christmas Attic\,’ O’Neill and his team took it on the road (and TV screens) with similarly blockbuster results. \nSale Dates and Times:\nPublic Onsale : Fri\, 15 Sep 2023 at 10:00 AM\nCiti® Cardmember Presale : Thu\, 14 Sep 2023 at 10:00 AM\nCiti® Cardmember Preferred Tickets : Fri\, 15 Sep 2023 at 10:00 AM\nLive Nation Presale : Thu\, 14 Sep 2023 at 10:00 AM\nVenue Presale : Thu\, 14 Sep 2023 at 10:00 AM\nTicketmaster Presale : Thu\, 14 Sep 2023 at 10:00 AM\nAllegiant Always Members Presale : Thu\, 14 Sep 2023 at 10:00 AM\nBrave Words Presale : Thu\, 14 Sep 2023 at 10:00 AM\nTSO Presale : Thu\, 14 Sep 2023 at 10:00 AM\nVettix Presale : Thu\, 14 Sep 2023 at 10:00 AM\nSirius XM Presale : Thu\, 14 Sep 2023 at 10:00 AM\nMacaroni Kid Presale : Thu\, 14 Sep 2023 at 10:00 AM \nPurchase Tickets \nAbout Trans-Siberian Orchestra\nWhen Paul O’Neill first conceived Trans-Siberian Orchestra\, his goal was as straightforward as it was incredibly ambitious. “The whole idea\,” he explains\, “was to create a progressive rock band that would push the boundaries (of the genre) further than any group before… Way\, way further.” \nWith more than 10 million albums sold\, TSO has inspired generations of fans to rediscover the multi-dimensional art form of the rock opera. Meanwhile\, on the road\, they have become one of the world’s top acts\, with Billboard magazine naming TSO as one of the top touring artists of the past decade — a $20 million-plus production that has played to over 100 million people in 80+ cities\, selling more than $280 million worth of tickets and presenting $11 million to charity.

SUMMARY:Opera Orlando Presents Tosca
DESCRIPTION:Opera Orlando Presents Tosca\nOpera Orlando presents Tosca. Puccini’s tragically grand Tosca to kick off its 2023-24 All for Art MainStage series. As war and rebellion ravage the city of Rome\, the celebrated and passionate opera diva Floria Tosca finds herself caught in a web of religious and political intrigue\, betrayal\, and jealousy as she tries to save her lover the painter and firebrand Mario Cavadorossi\, while being coveted by the villainous and corrupt Baron Scarpia\, who holds all the power. It is an utterly untenable situation that proves dire for all involved\, but Tosca isn’t one to back down from a fight. \nThis taut melodrama unfolds on stage at Steinmetz Hall in a brand new and sumptuous production led by stage director Josh Shaw\, making his return to Opera Orlando\, and conductor Eiki Isomura who is making his Company debut\, with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra in the pit. They are joined by an international cast that includes Greek-soprano Eleni Calenos as the luminous and fiery Tosca with acclaimed tenor Nathan Granner as the fearless and dashing Cavaradossi. They are both making their Company debuts\, while baritone Daniel Scofield\, last seen as Sheriff Jack Rance in Opera Orlando’s site-specific production of The Girl of the Golden West\, returns to Orlando as the treacherous and forceful Scarpia. \nOctober 27 & 29\, 2023 | Steinmetz Hall | 7:30 p.m. & 2 p.m.\nThe cast also includes 2023-24 studio artists\, members of the Opera Orlando chorus\, and the Opera Orlando Youth Company. Tosca will be sung in Italian with English supertitles and have a run time of approximately two hours and twenty minutes with one intermission. \nPurchase Tickets \nAbout Dr. Phillips Center\nWe believe a performing arts center should be more than a beautifully designed building.
