SUMMARY:Opening Reception: (un)Common Faith
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception: (un)Common Faith\nHear from and meet the featured artist and curator\, and enjoy the A&H’s beautifully lit campus at night as you explore the new exhibition! The party will also feature live music by Big Ron Betts\, food by Brock’s BBQ\, and a bar. This exhibition will feature the religious and spiritual works of A&H’s founder\, J. André Smith\, paired with the religious works of Missionary Mary L. Proctor. \nUsing found objects from her junkyard\, Missionary Mary crafts three-dimensional works and paintings assembled from buttons\, mirrors\, jewelry\, doors\, and other various trinkets. Some works are inspired by bible scripture and others by memories of her grandmother or her childhood. Most include written messages of spiritual truths or life lessons. \nDuring his life\, Smith sought to bridge the gap between different communities of color\, like Maitland and Eatonville\, through his religious works and to bring to the forefront the common aspects and shared articles of faith. \nThe conversation between these two artists will examine Smith’s interest in\, and fascination with\, spirituality and diverse belief systems. \nTICKETS – This event is FREE for all attendees\, thanks to an anonymous donor! (Bring your friends and family!) Optional donations of any size are gladly accepted while reserving your free tickets\, and helps us continue expanding our free programming. Get your tickets here. \nArt & History Museums of Maitland\nArt & History Museums of Maitland (A&H) is a premier Central Florida cultural destination and community gathering place\, combining the best of both art and history. A&H is home to four unique museums: the Maitland Historical Museum\, the Telephone Museum\, the Waterhouse Residence & Carpentry Shop Museum\, and the Maitland Art Center (the only National Historic Landmark in greater Orlando). A&H is also home to a variety of art classes and workshops\, as well as two artist residency programs.

SUMMARY:Lamps and Lighting—Tiffany and His Contemporaries
DESCRIPTION:Lamps and Lighting—Tiffany and His Contemporaries\nView Lamps and Lighting—Tiffany and His Contemporaries at The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art. Few designers did more to bring art into the home than Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848–1933)\, and few of Tiffany’s incredibly varied products did more in this regard than his lamps. Tiffany had been interested in lighting since his days as a decorator\, but the rapid adoption of electricity in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century created unprecedented opportunities to marry technology and beautiful design for a much larger group of consumers. \nThe new installation of Lamps and Lighting—Tiffany and His Contemporaries showcases some of Tiffany’s most innovative designs for lamps and sets a context for their production and design. John Dikeman’s workbench and lamp molds\, recent acquisitions by the Morse\, illustrate the process used in the creation of a lamp. Dikeman (1882–1967) was the head of Tiffany Studios lamp department until it closed in the 1930s. \nThe Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art\nThe Morse Museum houses the world’s most comprehensive collection of works by Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848–1933)\, including the artist and designer’s jewelry\, pottery\, paintings\, art glass\, leaded-glass lamps and windows; his chapel interior from the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago; and art and architectural objects from his Long Island country estate\, Laurelton Hall. The Museum’s holdings also include American art pottery\, late 19th- and early 20th-century American paintings\, graphics\, and decorative art. \n  \n

What began as a safe space to gather\, share\, support\, and grow has grown into many areas that also serve the purpose of making us visible and strengthening us as a community. \nThe Center’s team works actively for the visibility and exercise of the rights of the LGBT+ community. Our staff is highly sensitized to issues that affect the LGBT+ community and actively works for a more just and inclusive world. In this way\, The Center is a safe and non-judgmental space where people can feel free to express themselves as they are.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Self Taught Black Artists in the American South
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception: Self Taught Black Artists in the American South at the Mennello Museum of American Art \nThe Exhibition:\nSelf-Taught Black Artists in the American South – The exhibition Self-Taught Black Artists in the American South presents the work of 13 artists who painted and sculpted outside of the mainstream art world in the American South beginning in the 1970s. Additional funding is provided by the Frank Holt Fund\, Orange County Government through the Arts & Cultural Affairs Program\, and United Arts of Central Florida.
