This was what the wilderness sanctuary early tribes found when they escaped inland from the Spanish. Later\, when Creeks and others from the tribes of the Southeast United States fled into Spanish Florida and settled new villages among escaped African slaves\, they became the Seminoles. \nThe word “Seminole” is adopted from Spanish and Creek terms for people who live away from others. The Senator was the biggest and oldest bald cypress tree in the world\, located in Big Tree Park\, Longwood\, Florida. At the time of its demise in 2012\, it was approximately 3\,500 years old\, 125 feet (38 m) tall\, and with a trunk diameter of 11.27 feet (3.44 m).

SUMMARY:Fernando Molinares-Dreams of the Alligator Man FREE ARTIST RECEPTION
DESCRIPTION:Coming to Osceola Arts in the Studio Gallery- SUEÑOS DEL HOMBRE CAIMÁN-Dreams of the Alligator Man works by Orlando artist Fernando Molinares IG@mrmonk90 on display from September 3 through October 25. \nA free and open to the public artist reception will be held in the Studio Gallery on Saturday\, September 14 from 2pm to 5pm. \nThe legend of the Caimán-man\, a hybrid of human and caiman\, embodies the spirit of Colombian folklore. According to the tale\, this creature flees from his homeland\, it reaches the Atlantic Ocean near Barranquilla\, Colombia\, at Bocas de Ceniza\, where the Magdalena River merges with the Caribbean Sea. There\, he encounters persecution from fishermen intrigued and frightened by his unusual appearance. “Hombre Caimán” (Alligator-Man) has become a customary label for any man born and raised on Colombia’s north coast. \nFernando Molinares\, hailing from Barranquilla\, shares a kinship with the iconic Caimán-man. In many ways\, he too is a hybrid. This sense of hybridity is not unique to him; everyone experiences moments of feeling strange or different\, especially in environments where they are not part of the majority. Through his art\, Molinares delves into his emotional connections with the Caimán-man\, portraying these sentiments through dream-like images filled with symbolism and elements of magical realism. His work reflects the universal experience of being a “strange creature in a strange land\,” evoking the deeply human feeling of being different. \nFernando Molinares emigrated to the United States in 2000 and worked as a portrait artist at Disney World theme parks. During this time\, he completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Central Florida (UCF)\, and years later\, while working as a lead artist for Universal Orlando\, he obtained his Master of Fine Arts from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Fernando has participated in numerous collective and solo exhibitions in Orlando and abroad. He continues working for the Disney Company as a Figure and Show Finisher Artist\, an adjunct professor of Arts and Humanities at Ana G. Mendez University\, and a part-time Faculty Art professor at Valencia College in Orlando. \nWorks by Fernando Molinares will be displayed in the Studio Gallery from September 3 through October 25 with a free artist reception on Saturday\, September 14 from 3pm to 5pm. SUMMARY:Liminal Space Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Liminal Space Opening Reception\nLiminal Space\nOpening Reception\nSeptember 13 from 6-9 PM\nCasselberry Arts Center\n137 Quail Pond Circle \nJoin us for the opening reception of Liminal Space at the Casselberry Arts Center on Friday\, September 13 from 6-9 PM. \nArtists Anthony Mancuso and Bobby Aiosa are interested in portraying\, the complexities of our built environment and how these designed spaces\, public and private\, impact our daily lives. \nBoth artists are interested in exploring the activity within the threshold of domestic and public lives and how one can influence the other. \nAnthony Mancuso’s paintings focus on visualizing the psychology of everyday domestic scenes of co-habitation through the lens of multiple points of view\, askew perspective\, and saturated colors. \nBy conflating historical design movements and architectural motifs with familial and organic objects\, Bobby Aiosa’s sculptural architectural fragmentations reflect on the past lives that once occupied these spaces\, and how constant urban redevelopment can bring these once concealed histories to the surface. \nBoth artists utilize the influence of structural form\, organic shape\, and hue as a tool to convey an underlying consequence behind the imagery and objects presented. Behind the colorful façade of our designed spaces there are more complex stories beyond what the passive viewer may discern within our everyday environments. \nThe evening will include light refreshments and great music. Lake Concord Park will also host a Food Truck event and two additional openings at the Art House and the Sculpture House during this event so bring your friends and family to enjoy all the offerings in Casselberry. \nAll events are subject to change and/or cancellation. For more information\, please call (407) 262-7700\, Ext. 1122 \nCasselberry Arts Center\nSince 2002\, the Casselberry Art House has been bringing people of all ages together for unique art experiences and cultural enrichment programs. This 2\,500 square foot facility offers community space for art classes\, art exhibitions\, educational programs\, workshops\, artist lectures and musical performances for all ages. \nNestled in a quiet\, park setting on Lake Concord\, the Casselberry Art House continues to provide a wonderful opportunity for residents\, Central Florida businesses and other organizations to enjoy and appreciate art. The Art House welcomes corporate as well as private sponsors to share in efforts to present cultural enrichment to all members of the Casselberry community.

The city’s population was 55\,000 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. Apopka comes from the Seminole word Ahapopka for “potato-eating place”. \nThrough the 1940s\, Lake Apopka was one of Central Florida’s main attractions. Anglers traveled from throughout the United States to fish for trophy-sized bass in Lake Apopka\, and 21 fish camps lined the lake’s shoreline.[2] \nLake Apopka has a history of more than 100 years of human alteration\, beginning with construction of the Apopka-Beauclair Canal in 1888. In 1941\, a levee was built along the north shore to drain 20\,000 acres (80 km2) of shallow marsh for farming. The discharge of water\, rich in nutrients from agricultural and other sources\, produced conditions that created a chronic algal bloom and resulted in loss of the lake’s recreational value and game fish populations.

At 7 p.m.\, enjoy the lighting of this piece of architectural history outside of the Museum. When the Orange Court Motor Lodge closed in 1990\, Hugh F. McKean (1908–95)\, the Morse Museum’s first Director\, stepped forward to save the sign from demolition. \nAbout The Morse Museum\nThe Morse Museum is home to the world’s most comprehensive collection of works by Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848–1933). The Museum’s holdings also include American art pottery\, late 19th- and early 20th-century American paintings\, graphics\, and history of design objects. \nMuseum hours through April are 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday; 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and Saturday; and l p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
