Coming to Mills Gallery April 2nd – 30th. ATMOSPHERES: Works by Jennifer Baker. Opening reception Saturday, April 2nd from 6-8pm. “A spontaneous exploration of the human connection to the natural world.”
“I was born and raised in Florida, and picked up my first paint brush too early to remember. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, studying on a full tuition scholarship under renowned artists including Jane Rosen, Don Eddy, Jan Groth and Jack Youngerman.”
“My artistic process and production are my own language for communicating and communing with the natural world as a human being. The common thread that underlies all of my work is a desire and intention to stop, stand still, find moments for the contemplation and interpretation of the environment that surrounds us all, all of the time, the pulse of life and natural becoming that never stops, never quiets, never remains the same. Making sense of my own place on this planet, as part of the living breathing biosphere that I am a part of… that is why I paint. The truth is that I find the natural world enthrallingly, overwhelmingly captivating, and beautiful. My artistic practice interprets that beauty, power, and unpredictable force. My work beckons the person viewing it to look outward while at the same time looking inward, experiencing the power and forces of nature that run through us all at our core.”
